The story behind THIS story that you are about to read is that it was pieced together at approximately 11:00 am on August 12, 2014. My phone rang at approximately 11:40 am.....and that's when the news of my mother's death was delivered to me.
As I was writing my story, my mother took her last breath. The angels took her home.

Here is the story:

It's typical that over the past year, her conversations have become nonsensical at best....words lost in the vortex of a brain riddled with dementia. For the past few days....she had been waging her battle with pneumonia. Her chest heaving up and down as her tiny body worked overtime just to inhale and exhale each and every breath.
She was wearing her favorite Florida souvenir sweatshirt, the one with the pink flamingos embroidered on the pockets, her copper penny colored eyes looked deeply into mine and she pulled me closer and closer into her and told me that she wanted to go home.
She raised her hand up slowly and reached for the heart shaped pendant that hung loosely from my neck. She reached for my hand and guided it towards the pendant and with a tiny, powerful and unexpected grip she looked into my eyes and squeezed our hands together around that heart shaped pendant and again she said, "I want to go home."
I quietly told her that the angels will come for her when it's time. Upon hearing those words, her face became relaxed and she quickly donned that cute little half smile and said to me, "Get my shoes, let's go." Godspeed Mom. Godspeed.

Mom, I love you all ways and always. I will be forever grateful to you for giving me life. Thank you for embedding in me, your strong moral fiber.
And thank you for naming me after a song.
We DO love our music don't we mom !

See you in the cosmos. X's and O's

Your daughter,
Donna

I am sad that you are gone, far too soon, but happy that now your suffering and confusion has ended. By now you are with our keeper and safe and happy with those that have gone before you. Give my love to dad ... i am sure he was there to meet you and welcome you to your heavenly home. May peace and love be with you always .... your sister from Maine!

Dear Mom,
November 16, 2014...your birthday.
You would have been 75.
I want you to know that friends and relatives from Maine, Rhode Island and all the way to Florida held a wonderful
tribute to you on your special day.
All of us sent prayers to you and sipped
our Dunkin' Donuts (that you loved
so much) in honor of your feisty
spirit and your wonderful sense of
humor and the way you influenced each and every one of us.
So many had special and unique memories of their relationship with you.
You are and one and only for sure.
I love you and I miss you !
Just like the song at your funeral service
says: You Are My Special Angel.
Rest in Peace ma.
With all of my love,
Your daughter Donna

Ma, In a couple of days it will have been three years since you left this earthly realm to take your place amongst the angels. I recognize all of the signs that you send to me and I can still hear your voice, in my head and in my heart, giving me your opinions and advice ! As you know, I heed your words.
Thanks for being my very, VERY 'Special Angel'.

Donna - (Rhode Island)
