Aunty Eva, a legend in our family. We will never forget our visit to stay at her home, a month of love and laughter. Our visits to New York, Orlando, Cape Cod and Washington also meeting up with all the family we had only ever heard of via telephone calls. Her visits to us and our travels around to Avebury, Stonehenge, London all made so special by her company. We had many long telephone conversations and she was so interested in the family tree I was trying of compile. Aunty Eva, the Elder of our family, what will we do without you, but every time we see English Lavender we will smile and think of you. Every time we looks through our photographs we will see your smiling face and smile back at you. Enjoy partying with all those gone before you up there, and be assured your were loved by all the relatives from this side of the globe - your homeland. RIP and lots of love coming your way xxx

Aunty Eva (and Uncle Joe) will forever hold a special place in my heart. You were among my first visitors when I was born 50 years ago (strange to think I’m now the same age you were when we first met) and some of my most favourite memories include you in them. We loved you coming over to England to visit us when I was younger, and then when I had my first ever trip to the USA it was to come and stay with you in RI.

We spent a wonderful month together and I loved seeing where you lived and meeting all your family. Since then we’ve been able to share in several visits and each time we’ve made precious memories, and had new experiences. Some of these memories include our trip to New York when you told off the cashier at the top of the Empire State Building for short changing me, our sing songs on the coach to Washington DC, late night fruit salads in bed, and running what felt like a marathon the day we lost you at the airport in Florida. Oh, and who could forget the dinner at the Chinese Buffet?

You introduced me to some ‘different' new foods - Wintergreen lifesavers, Hersheys Kisses and Ambrosia (which I remember you dropping a whole glass bowl on your kitchen floor), and some foods that we still now continue to enjoy at home - your American Chicken recipe.

We seemed to spend a lot of time shopping - I loved visiting shopping malls with you (we didn’t have any at home in England at the time), and I remember spending many hours in Ann & Hope with you.

I especially remember our late night chats the last time we visited the USA and you flew down to spend time with us. We shared a room and spent MANY hours chatting (you were very good at chatting) - these are indeed very precious memories.

You really were an incredible person - you will always be such a special person to me and you wouldn’t believe how often you are talked about here at home. My children didn’t all get to meet you, but they all knew you. I already miss you, knowing that you’re no longer just the other side of the pond - but as Uncle Joe would always say, he didn’t like saying Goodbye, but instead, he would say I’ll see you again. Aunty Eva, I will see you again xxxxx

Aunty Eva has been a monumentous figure in our family and although I can not remember her in person, as I was very young when we last met in Florida, I will always remember our Boxing Day conversations over the phone and the countless stories I heard about her from my mum and nan and gramp. Whether that be about her and uncle Joe's home in Rhode Island, my family's time in New York and the North East US and the evening she came down to see us in Florida when we had gone on holiday there. I'm sorry I never got to see you in your later years as would have loved to have visited you and seen the beauty of New England but hopefully we will meet in again. Lots of love from across the pond

A very special lady, although I think I only actually met her twice. Firstly when I was a teenager and we stopped off, en route to the airport, at Trafalgar Square (I think) and had photos taken with the pigeons there. Then when they came to supper during a visit years later. I must have made a blackberry and apple pie because she mentioned it several times afterwards in letters.

Aunty Eva was a fantastic help with my family history researches and sent me many photos and notes. So I have a lot to thank her for and lots of family photos and information that I would never have known about if she hadn’t taken the time and trouble to help me. Yes, a really special lady.
