passed away peacefully in his 77th year at his home in Pawtucket, R.I on Monday June 2, 2014, surrounded by family and friends. He had bravely fought and confronted a terminal illness. Mr. Mensah was born on July 10, 1936 in his native Ghana where he served in the military and police force as Chief Inspector for thirty years. In 1989, he moved to the United States of America and worked at Rhode Island Hospital's Department of Environmental Services until his retirement in 2006.
He is survived by his children, Faustina Owusuah (Pawtucket), Ama Amponsah (Pawtucket City Sergeant), Francis Owusu Mensah (Ghana), Isaac Owusu Mensah (Ghana), Emmanuel Owusu Mensah (Attleboro, MA), Samuel Owusu Mensah (Wilmington, DE), Seth Mensah (Victor, NY) and Eric Owusu Mensah (Pawtucket, RI); twenty-two grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the Home and Hospice Care of Rhode Island. Their dedication and effort to provide quality care over the last 2 months was a heartwarming blessing to the entire family. We thank God for the gift of his life and the time we spent with him.
Family and friends will be received at the Keefe Funeral Home, Five Higginson Avenue, Lincoln, Rhode Island on Saturday, July 5th from 8:30am till 11am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Mary's Church, 103 Pine Street, Pawtucket, RI, at Noon.
