65, of River Road in Lincoln, passed away unexpectedly on January 18, 2016. Charles is survived by his wife of 34 years, Elizabeth (Schofield). Born in Stoughton, MA, he was the son of the late Charles Jr. and Glenna (Duggan) Downs.
He proudly served in the United States Air Force from 1969 - 1973, he deployed multiple times to Vietnam during this time. Upon completion of his military service he worked for Corning Glass Works in Central Falls, RI. He then moved on to work for the Pawtucket School Department as a Custodial Engineer until his retirement in 2011. Charles was an avid outdoorsman who greatly appreciated all mother nature had to offer. He loved spending time with his extended family and his four legged grandchildren. The birds and squirrels will miss him greatly.
He was the beloved father of Sarah and husband Steven Rudis of Warwick, Charles IV of Lincoln, and Meghan and fiance Justin Bouthillette of Woonsocket. He was the brother of Glenna, Christopher, Thomas, John, Mathew, Andrew, Stephen, and the late Peter Downs.
Calling hours will be Sunday, January 24th from 12 - 3 pm in Keefe Funeral Home, Five Higginson Ave., Lincoln. Burial with Military Honors will be held on Monday, January 25th at 11:30 AM at the R.I. Veterans Cemetery, Exeter. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to National Park Foundation (Attn: Gift Processing) 1110 Vermont Ave NW, Ste 200 Washington, DC 20005 will be appreciated.
