"The Pieman" passed away peacefully surrounded by love on February 3, 2016. He was the son of Beatrice (Coleman) and Joseph Sadlier. Joseph was a lifelong resident of Pawtucket and was married to Vivian (Reilly) Sadlier for 59 years. He was the devoted father of Joan Corey (Frank), Paula Fontaine (John), Joseph Sadlier (Maria), Catherine Sadlier Ciresi (Robert) and Rachel Williams (James). He was the proud grandpa to Lara, Alexandra, Billy, Julie, Nicholas, Troy, Matthew, Zane, Viviana and Richard. He is also survived by his sisters, Eileen Corrigan (Ray), Sr. Maureen Sadlier RSM, Catherine Sadlier, Beatrice Sharkey (Steve) and sister in law Regina Sadlier. Joe was predeceased by his brothers, Father Richard Sadlier SSJ, Eugene, John and William Sadlier. Joe attended St. Mary's School in Pawtucket and Pawtucket West High School. He served in the US Army during the Korean War. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus. Mr. Sadlier was a devout Catholic and spent his entire adult life volunteering and raising funds for the less fortunate, primarily through sales of his renowned meat pies. 8Joe loved to cook and he loved to feed people. He was a cook and baker by trade and continued to use those skills in his retirement to manage the Hospitality House soup kitchen at Central Falls' Notre Dame Church. Joe organized the Toys for Tots drive at St. Mary's Church in Pawtucket for many years and also served on the board of the Pawtucket Substance Abuse Prevention Task Force. In 1999 he was thrilled to represent Pawtucket as "the face of Ireland" in the St. Patrick's Day parade. Joe was inducted in to the Pawtucket Hall of Fame in 2000. On October 25, 2001, he received the Daily Point of Light from then President George W. Bush. Joe was also a lifelong blood donor and was honored by the RI Blood Center in 2012.
His funeral will be held Saturday, February 6th at 9:30am from the Keefe Funeral Home, Five Higginson Ave, Lincoln with a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Mary Church, Pine St, Pawtucket at 11am. Burial will be private in the RI Veterans Cemetery, Exeter. Relatives and friends are invited. Calling hours will be held Friday, February 5th from 4 to 7pm. In lieu of flowers memorial gifts may be made to the Boys and Girls Club of Pawtucket, 1 Moeller Place, Pawtucket, RI 02860.
