93, passed on April 14, 2016. He was the husband of the late Dorothy (Caffrey) Masse, and the son of the late Eustache and Lumina (Gamache) Masse. He resided in Pawtucket in his younger years and lived in Cumberland for the last 62 years. Barney was a former construction superintendent, supervising as well as participating in the building of many of the bridges in Rhode Island, Massachusetts and Connecticut. He was a WWII Army veteran, and loved playing chess and cribbage. Barney was a devoted trustee and parishioner and was instrumental in the construction of St. Aidan Church.
He is survived by two daughters, Diane Walker of North Carolina, and Ann Marie Scholz of New Jersey, a son, Bernard C. Masse of Rhode Island, three sisters, Claire Gousie, Jacqueline Bleyer and Gertrude Robert, a sister-in-law Barbara Zabinski, and his dearest friend, Jeannine Cayer. He will also be missed by his 14 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was father of the late Cheryl Lemoie, David Masse and Susan Coburn, and brother of the late Raymond, Bertrand and Rene Masse.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, April 19th at 10am in St. Aidan Church, Diamond Hill Rd, Cumberland. Burial with military honors will be in Notre Dame Cemetery, Pawtucket. Relatives and friends are invited to a visitation that will be held on Monday from 5-8pm at St. Aidan Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts in Barney's name may be made to St. Aidan Church.
