"Claire" 88, passed on May 19th. She was the wife of the late Gordon Pierce. She was the daughter of the late Clarence H. and Carrie M. (Thompson) Skaling. She was the co proprietor of the former North Cumberland News Service for over 20 years and became known as "The Paper Lady." She was an active member of the Cumberland Grange. Claire was a great cook. She enjoyed summer family picnics, camping in Vermont and spending winters in St. Augustine, Fl. She is survived by four sons, Gregory I. Pierce and his wife Shirley, Richard B. Pierce, Roger G. Pierce and his wife Crystelle, Charles A. Pierce and his wife Jayne, a daughter, Barbara Sidla and her husband David, eleven grandchildren, five great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Stanley, Irving and Elmer Skaling, Margaret Winterbottom, Mable Blais, and Marie Bagley. Her funeral will be held Monday, May 23rd at 10am in the Keefe Funeral Home, Five Higginson Ave, Lincoln, with a service at 10:30am in the funeral home. Burial will be in Diamond Hill Cemetery, Cumberland. In lieu of flowers memorial gifts may be made to the Holiday Retirement Home Activities Dept., 30 Sayles Hill Rd, Manville, RI 02838 or Hospice of Nursing Placement, 334 East Ave, Pawtucket RI 02860.
