passed away peacefully on August 8th, 2016. He was born in Lincoln, Rhode Island on February 25th, 1935, the son the of late Albert Waldo and Gina (Mazzarella) Ondis. Mr. Ondis served in the Army and received a Commendation Medal for his service during his tour in Korea. A graduate of Hofstra University, he was unique and multifaceted. All who knew him will agree that he was larger-than-life and "the life of the party." He was an actor, a singer, and a member of the State Ballet of Rhode Island. He was a competitive athlete who played football, baseball, tennis, bocce, and golf. He was also a fencing coach. He was a real estate developer whose many interests and self-taught accomplishments included furniture design and interior architecture. He was an expert in wine and watches and had an extensive collection of both. His interest in the histories of World War I and II included a collection of military weapons and memorabilia. Mr. Ondis was an unforgettable raconteur. Having owned restaurants, he delighted in being a personal chef for his family. He was a philanthropist for children and animals in need. He was the brother of the late Norma (Ondis) Gaskill and Albert Waldo Ondis, Jr. He is survived by his sister Venus (Ondis) Entwistle, his son, Gordon Francis Bacon Ondis, Jr., Aleta Triseault Ondis, his grandchildren, Ava, Julian and Aria Ondis, and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. The memorial service is Saturday, August 20th from 2-4 pm at the Keefe Funeral Home in Lincoln, RI. In lieu of flowers, we welcome donations to the ASPCA.
