was born November l, 1936 in Covoada, Sao Miguel, Azores and moved to the USA in 1966 settling in Pawtucket. In 1967 he returned to Portugal and married his wife, Gloria, moving to Central Falls in 1971, and later moving to North Providence in 1983, where he resided there until the present. He leaves his wife and children, Hilda Soares and her husband Edward of Seekonk, Susan Casimiro and her husband, Jose of New Bedford, Maria F. Leandro and Michael Leandro of North Providence, and grandchildren Edward Soares, Jr. Meaghan Soares, Emilio, Manuel, Anthony and John Casimiro and a sister, Conceicao Rosa. He was preceded in death by his brothers Manuel Leandro, John Leandro, Jose Leandro, David Leandro, Domingos Leandro and sister of Maria DeCarmo Tavares. Serafin was employed at Healthtex from 1967-1984 and at RI Hospital from 1984-2001 when he retired. He loved gardening, praying the rosary, cooking, reading, and playing with his grandchildren. his family will always remember him as a religious man who loved going to church and praying with his family. His favorite holiday was Christmas and he would spend weeks, sometimes sleepless nights, decorating his Nativity scene. His friends would remember him as a comedian as he loved to make people laugh. He enjoyed Halloween and dressing up for that day and playing tricks on others. A former alter boy in the village in Portugal, Nossa Senhora da Adjuda, Serafin was a past member of St. Anthony's Holy Spirit Society in Pawtucket, and the Romeiros (Pilgrims) of St. Anthony's Church. Calling hours for Serafin will be Friday from 5-8 at the Keefe Funeral Home, Five Higginson Ave. Lincoln. His funeral will be at 8:45 with a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Anthony's Church, Lawn Avenue in Pawtucket, at 10:00am. Burial will be in Mt. Calvery Cemetery, Cumberland.
