85 of Central Falls, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 11 at Saint Antoine Residence in North Smithfield. She was the wife of the late Louis R. Azar.
Born in Pawtucket, Joan was the daughter of the late Frederick and Rose (Callahan) Toomey.
Joan is predeceased by her daughter Maureen Azar. She is survived by her daughter Joanne B. (Azar) Diggle and her partner Noel Chartier, as well as her beloved and devoted granddaughter Ashley A. Diggle. Joan is also survived by two sisters, Rose Chopy of Cumberland and Maureen Jordan of Florida. Joan was the sister of the late Dolores Dame. She is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and lifelong friends.
Joan was an avid member of the Holy Trinity Women's Club and was devoted to Holy Trinity Church and Holy Trinity School.
Her funeral will be held from Keefe Funeral Home, 5 Higginson Avenue in Lincoln on Saturday, January 14. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the funeral home from 8:00 AM to 10:00 AM. A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM at St. Basil the Great Church, 15 Skyview Drive in Lincoln. Burial will be in St. Basil's Cemetery, Cumberland.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Joan's memory may be made to the Central Falls Teachers' Union Gerald Lemay Scholarship Fund at P.O. Box 182, Central Falls, RI 02863.
