of Lincoln, RI passed away peacefully at the age of 93, on September 4, 2017. She is the beloved wife of Leo E. Martel of 71 years. Born on June 6, 1924, she was the daughter of the late F. Anthony and Mary (Matrumalo) Savastano and lived in Rhode Island all of her life.
An avid golfer, card player and shuffle board competitor, Helen enjoyed spending winters in New Smyrna Beach, FL. She cherished time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and always enjoyed family gatherings.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her son Ronald Martel and his wife Candace of Bellingham, MA and her daughter, Susan (Susha) Hien of St. Martin, French West Indies. She leaves five grandchildren: Charles Hien and his wife Katie of Lincoln, RI; Kara Nichols and her husband Brian of Barrington, RI; Trevor Martel of Denver, CO; and Cullen and Taryn Martel of Bellingham, MA. She also leaves two great-grandchildren: Haley Hien of Lincoln, RI and Morgan Nichols of Barrington, RI. She is pre-deceased by her brothers Mateo, Anthony, and Mathew Savastano, and her sister Ann Barnes.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 6, 2017, at 9:00 AM from Keefe Funeral Home located at 5 Higginson Avenue, Lincoln, RI. Phone: (401) 725-4253.
Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial, to be celebrated at 11:00 AM at St. Jude's Church, located at 301 Front Street, Lincoln, RI. Internment will immediately follow in St. Francis Cemetery, 163 Smithfield Avenue, Pawtucket, RI.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Helen's memory to St. Jude's Church, 301 Front Street, Lincoln, RI 02865.
