died peacefully on October 16, 2017 at his home in Fort Pierce, FL. Born in Augusta Georgia raised in Pawtucket RI, he was the son of the late SFC (Retired) John F. Potris and Sally Potris. He was previously married to AnnMarie Arbour. A graduate of Pawtucket West High School, Jim has honorably defended our country since his enlistment in the US Army in 1975. A proud member of the RI National Guard 1207th Forward Support Company (former 1043rd) and deployed with the 103th Field Artillery, he was awarded the National defense service medal with bronze service star, global war on terrorism expeditionary medal, global war on terrorism service medal, deployment in Iraq and Kuwait and many other distinguished awards. Jim served as a dignified member of The Rhode Island National Honor Guard.

Jim was a dedicated AFJROTC Drill instructor at Coventry High School, mentoring and leading his students to numerous National Championships.
Jim was a former employee for the Xerox Corporation for 25 years and was most recently employed by Juvent, Riviera Beach, Florida, a company which truly inspired him.

Jim is survived by his sons, Adam Potris with his fiance Pam Wardyga and Nicholas Spink. He leaves behind his brothers, Joseph Potris and Edward Potris. His sisters Margaret Potris, Maureen Gardiner-Miller and Colleen Potris. He was the Uncle of Colleen Gobin-Marques and Great Uncle of Riley Marques.
Jim had lived his life with integrity, genuine kindness and a natural born ability to lead. He will be deeply missed.

Calling hours will be held Thursday. November 2nd from 4pm until 7pm in the Keefe Funeral Home, Five Higginson Ave, Lincoln. Committal prayers with Military Honors will be held at the RI Veterans Cemetery, Exeter on Friday at 10:30am.
