99, of Fox Point Manor, 575 Wickenden St, Providence, RI, passed June 8, 2010 at home. She was the wife of Antonio M. Araujo Sr.
She had been employed by Brown University for 13 years and was a foster grandparent at the Brown/Fox Point Day Care. She was a member of the Woman's Guild of the Cape Verdean Progressive Center, the Fox Point Senior Citizens and the Arthur Williams Memorial Bowling League.
She was the daughter of the late Julia Andrade Soares-Almeida and Joseph Soares. Her step-father was Fermino Almeida. She was the sister of the late Sebastian, Manuel, Peter and Louis Soares. She is survived by five sons, Louis, John, Arthur, Edward and David Araujo, nine daughters, Juanita Hammond, Julia Fortes, Angel Thornton, Frances Nicholaus, Deanna Love, Mary Best, Isabel Evans, Dolores Taylor and Patricia Joseph, 39 grandchildren, 55 great grandchildren and 7 great great grandchildren. She was the mother of the late Rosemary, Joseph and Antonio M. Araujo Jr.
Her funeral will be held Saturday at 8:30am from the Keefe Funeral Home, Five Higginson Ave, off Smithfield Ave, Lincoln with a 10:00am Mass of Christian Burial in the Church of the Holy Name of Jesus, 99 Camp St, Providence. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Providence. Relatives and friends are invited, calling hours will be held Friday from 4-8pm. In lieu of flowers memorial gifts may be made to Holy Name of Jesus Church
