64, died at his home, surrounded by his loving wife, children and family on the morning of August 2, 2010 after a three year battle with cancer. Born in Albion, Rhode Island, he was the son of the late Rene H. Martel and Cecile (Forest) Martel. He leaves behind his beloved wife of 37 years, Doris Martel.
He had been employed by the Pawtucket Police Department, retiring in 1990. He was a former board member of the Fraternal Order of Police and the FOP Honor Guard.
He had been employed as a full time National Guard Technician for the USPFO and served proudly in the US Army. He had also been a substance abuse counselor for SSTAR. He was also an avid, die-hard Red Sox fan.
Besides his wife, he leaves eight children; Mrs. Kerrie Medeiros and Mrs. Tracy Feighery of Pawtucket, Mrs. Rene Schmidt of Lincoln and Mrs. Nicole Reis of East Providence, Derek Martel, Gregg Martel and Steven Martel of Cumberland, and Brian Martel of New Town, CT. He also leaves fifteen grandchildren and his beloved dog Molly.
His funeral will be held Friday, August, 6, 2010 at 8:45am from the Keefe Funeral Home, Five Higginson Ave, Lincoln with a Mass of Christian Burial at Saint Ambrose Church, Albion, Rhode Island at 10am. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited, calling hours will be held Thursday 5-8pm
