81, of Earle Street, died
Tuesday at Mt. St. Francis Health Center. He was the husband of the late Laurel V. Champagne. They had been married for 61 years.

Born in Providence, a son of the late Oscar and Lena (Malo) Champagne.

Oscar was a driver salesman for Arnold’s Bakery of Lincoln for 13 years. He then worked for the former Gorman’s Bakery and then was employed by Nissan’s Bakery of Central Falls for 30 years retiring in 1998. He was a past president of the Central Falls Little League for 10 years and was a volunteer for St. Matthew’s Church Helping Hands Program and Charity Drive.

He is survived by two sons, Dennis O. Champagne of Swansea, MA and Michael A. Champagne of Dallas, TX. Three daughters, Patrice E. Fitzgibbons of Central Falls, Jo-Ann Gauthier of Somerset, MA and Dawn M. Pawlitschek of Cumberland, a brother, Robert A. Champagne of Pawtucket, 13 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. He was the father of the late Loreen A. Hakeem.

His funeral will be held Saturday, March 14, 2009 at 8:30 a.m. from the Keefe Funeral Home, Five Higginson Ave., Lincoln, with a mass of Christian Burial at St. Matthew Church, Dexter St., at 9:30 a.m. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery, Pawtucket. Relatives and friends invited. Calling hours will be held on Friday, March 13, 2009 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers memorial gifts may be made to Sr. Bea’s Ministry, 1030 Dexter St, Central Falls, RI 02863
