born on February 19, 1948 in Providence, RI passed away peacefully January 11, 2011 after battling cancer for over five years. John leaves his loving companion Lucie Riccitelli and is survived by his parents, Margaret and John Edward Harrison of Lincoln, his former wife Jeannine DiCocco of North Smithfield, two daughters, Renee Roberts of North Attleboro and Beth Longo and son-in-law Dr. Paul Longo of Coventry, four grandchildren, Michael and Brayden DePrete and Fallyn and Colby Roberts. He is also survived by two brothers, Paul Harrison of Lincoln and David Harrison now residing in Hartford, CT. He also leaves three nephews.
John attended St. Edwards School and graduated from Lincoln High School 1967. He received an Associates Degree from CCRI in Fire Science and served in the U.S. Coast Guard between 1968-1972. John was a Volunteer Fire Fighter for Quinnville Fire Department where he achieved the rank of Chief. He also volunteered for Harmony Fire Department from 1975-1989. John also served as President of the Blackstone Valley Fireman's League of Northern R.I.
He was a charter member of RI Antique Fire Apparatus Society and member of the national club known as Society for the Preservation and Appreciation of Motorized Fire Apparatus of America (SPAAMFA) as well as a member of the Ocean State Vintage Haulers.
John became a master electrician in the 1980's and owned Amp-Rite Electrical Contracting until he retired due to illness. He was a member of the Electrical Inspectors Association of R.I and was also an electrical instructor for CCRI.
A funeral service will be held Tuesday at 10am from the Keefe Funeral Home, Five Higginson Ave, Lincoln. Burial with Military Honors will be in St. Johns Evangelist Cemetery, Slatersville. Relatives and friends are invited, calling hours will be held Monday from 5to 8pm. In lieu of flowers memorial gifts may be made to the Miriam Hospital Foundation, PO Box H, Providence RI 02901-9929 Home and Hospice Care of RI, 1085 North Main St, Providence RI 02904
