Esq., 61, of Johnston passed away at home on Sunday, May 15, 2011. Born in Providence, he was the son of the late Dorothy and Roy Archibald. Russell was a civil rights attorney for the Department of Housing & Urban Development in Boston for over 20 years. Prior to that he was Assistant Superintendent of the RI Training School during the 1970s. Also, he worked at Model Cities in Providence. He was a member of the IBA, Fox Point Boys & Girls Alumni Assoc., and the Sheldon Street Church. Russell loved to travel, bowl, and play blackjack.
He was a fiance of Renee-Grant Kane. He is survived by a son, Adam Barros and his wife, Lynette, his 2 grandchildren Matthias and Indira Barros. He leaves two brothers, Leroy "Sassy"Archibald and his wife MaryAnn, Earl "Buddy"Archibald and his wife Carol. He was the brother of the late Bertha Mauricio, Walter Reis, Lois Gomes, Kenneth Reis, and Joyce "Pee Wee"Waters. He was the godfather of Roxanne Archibald, Cheryl Archibald Bennett and Brandi Venter. He leaves a large extended family of nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 10am in Sheldon St. Church, 51 Sheldon St, Fox Point. Visiting hours will be held Wednesday from 4-8pm in the Keefe Funeral Home, Five Higginson Ave, Lincoln. Burial will be in North Burial Ground, Providence.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Sheldon Street Church.
