11/27/1940 to 09/08/2011, 70, of Cumberland died Thursday, September 8th due to lung cancer.
He was born in Dighton, Massachusetts, son of late Herbert and Violet Simmons. He had been a resident of Cumberland most of his life.
Bob served in the US Navy and later received a degree in Electrical Engineering. He was a man with many interests and wasn't afraid to try new things. He loved riding horses, playing guitar, ballroom dancing, martial arts, motorcycles, sky diving, you name it and he has probably done it, at least once. He loved cooking and would take special pride in his Thanksgiving meal. Bob had an insatiable thirst for knowledge. What he didn't know, he would find out. He always had a book or two that he was reading. He loved stretching his mind and looked forward to the daily crossword puzzles and Sudoku. Bob also had a great love of animals and felt blessed that his dog, Max, was there with him in his final days. In the last year of his life, Bob found love and comfort from his family, friends, and caretakers.
Bob is survived by: sister, Jean Hopkins; brother, John Simmons; children: Vance Simmons (Fran), Wendy Spradley (Brent), Brad Cacciatore (Lauren), Krystal Simmons (Mike), and Selina Simmons. He is also survived by eight grandchildren and one great-grandson.
Bob was preceded in death by his brother, David Simmons.
The family would like to thank all the staff members from Home & Hospice of Rhode Island for taking such wonderful care of him.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, November 25th, 2011 from 11:00 -1:00 pm at Blackstone Valley Church of Christ, 141 Bear Hill Rd., Cumberland
