"Rudy", 81, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, September 14, 2013 after a long battle with cancer. He was the husband of Victoria (Lamoureux) Gonya. They have been married for 60 years. Born in Pawtucket, he was the son of the late Florence (Desjardin) Gonya. Rudolph had been employed for many years by Decorated Fabrics and served as their union's president. He was also a head usher at St. Raymond Church for many years. Besides his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Katherine Rivet and her spouse Virginia Davis of Central Falls and Karen Miller, and her spouse Theron "Buddy" of Seekonk, two sons, Rudolph G. "Rudy" Gonya and his spouse Donna-Lee of Pawtucket and Eric Gonya of Winnsboro SC. He was the devoted grandfather "pip" of 7 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. He also left his beloved cat Mai-tai who was constantly by his side. Rudolph was the father of the late Michael and Adam Gonya, and brother of the late Emma Poulin, Florence Huard and Arthur Gonya. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday at Noon in St. Raymond Church, North Main St, Providence. Burial will be held in Notre Dame Cemetery, Pawtucket. Relatives and friends are invited. Calling hours will begin Thursday morning at 10:00am in the Keefe Funeral Home, Five Higginson Ave, Lincoln. In lieu of flowers memorial gifts may be made to the food pantry at St. Raymond Church, 1240 North Main St. Providence, RI 02904 or Home & Hospice Care of Rhode Island, 1085 North Main St Providence, RI 02904.
