57, of Macieira, Mortagua, Portugal, died peacefully on March 19, 2014 at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, Mass. surrounded by her loving family after a long battle of cancer. Born on February 20, 1957 she was a resident of Central Falls, Rhode Island were she resided with her loving husband, Arlindo Rodrigues, beloved Daughter Gisela Gomes, Son-in-Law Joe Gomes and her beautiful granddaughter Bianca Gomes. She was also survived by her parents Jose and Aldina Almeida of Macieira, Mortagua, Portugal, four brothers and four sisters and many beloved nieces, nephews, godchildren and cousins. Her strong will to live, unwavering faith in God and the constant love of her beloved husband, daughter, son in law and grandaughter got her through this difficult disease. As the oldest of nine, Maria is remembered as a courageous woman, her compassion for her family and friends, her love for music and dance. She will also be remembered for never giving up and always taking care of everyone elses needs in front of her own. A memorial mass will be held on Saturday the 22nd of March at Our Lady of Fatima, 7 Fatima Dr. Cumberland, RI 02864 at 10:00 am. In Lieu of flowers memorial gifts may be made to Our Lady of Fatima Church.
