82, passed on March 25th with his loving family by his side. He was the husband of Benvinda Pires.
Born in Brava, Cape Verde a son of the late Jose Pires and Margarita (Leite) Pires.
He had been employed by the former Fram Corporation for many years before retiring.
David immigrated to Dakar, Senegal before arriving in the United States. He was an accomplished athlete and award winning cyclist in Dakar, Senegal.
Besides his wife, he is survived by two children, David J. Pires Jr and Margaret Pires, both of Connecticut, four step children, Madeleine DeFaria and Yvonne DeFaria Salmeri, both of France, Regine DeFaria of Ohio and Francisco H. DeFaria of Providence, many nieces, nephews and step grandchildren.
His funeral will be held Saturday at 8:45am from the Keefe Funeral Home, Five Higginson Ave, Lincoln with a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Anthony Church, Lawn Ave, Pawtucket at 10am. Burial will be in North Burial Ground, Providence. Relatives and friends are invited. Calling hours will be held Friday from 5 to 8pm.
