I am so very sorry for your loss. Death is such a stressful time. Psalms 46:1 tells us that "God is our refuge and strength" A help readily found during time of distress. I hope this message will help you cope with the loss of your loved one.

I would like to express my sincere condolences to the family and friends. It is fair to say that God understands the pain and grief that you are going through. For he too lost someone very special to him (John3:16). However, he promised to bring an end to the pain, mourning and outcry we experience because of death. Yes, he will bring death to an end according to the book of Revelation 21:4. Soon God’s Kingdom will restore the earth into a beautiful Paradise. (Matt 6:9, 10).

Hello Everyone,

Today is John's birthday he would have turned 62.

The following is an e-mail that I had sent as he asked me to send to everyone in his contact list "if anything happens to me" I sent it to all except his two daughters because they already knew and I imagined it would be somewhat "eerie" getting a message from Dad after it happened.

I am posting this for future readers as have been told that it was very sad but very sweet.
And to answer any questions.

Hello everyone,

This is John's brother David and I need to say prepare yourself for bad news.
I need to just come out and say it
John passed to his eternal rest on Friday May 16th at about 911pm.

John had a spot on his pancreas and decided to biopsy it & that surgery was on the 24th of April and while connecting back organs that were in front of it on his abdomen he suffered a massive heart attack that affected 35-50% of his heart.

John was in the SICU unit Surgery Intensive Care Unit of West Roxbury VA and after about a week he was moved to a Progressive Care Unit that was a "step down" as he seemed to be improving. After about a week on May 9th he was again moved this time to the Cardiac Care Unit of the same hospital which I must say was an excellent care hospital.

Right from that 24 hours in the evening the doctor's had prepared us for the worst and wanted to know if we or he wanted any extraneous measures taken in the event of another attack i.e., Whether or not to use defibrillation paddles, or even chest compressions or the like. John never wanted to live in a constant vegetative or confined state and the family agreed to follow his wishes and told the doctors so.

At that first weekend he was at times unaware of his surroundings but when told where he was he would recall it. He just wanted to rest.

He had constant and nearly unending bedside support from the family from roughly 8am-9pm
every single day.

His health and condition was deteriorating. Jaundice was returning and he was beginning to get off and on get delirious. On Monday May 12th the doctors wanted to do "one last ditch effort" and give him another Invasive Radiology looking for the source of bleeding in his stomach and still could not find it.

John was just a tough stubborn Irishman from CF. He had not eaten any food in three weeks and only getting swabs of water for fear of pneumonia from water but had been getting hydration, nutrition, and subsistence until the end which lasted three weeks.

His three surviving brothers and his eldest daughter Jennifer decided to let John peacefully slide into his reward as silently and relaxful as possible. All tubes were removed excepting the pain medications which until the last few hours was fentanyl.

Upon the removal of the tubes and even a few days before John was never really awake or there but did acknowledge sometimes someone being near him and the final day I think it was he even opened his mouth for the nurse who asked him to to put a little water in his mouth.

On the final afternoon May 16th a palliative care room opened to which they moved John to at about 315pm.

In that final week it was discussed that our father used to sing Danny Boy to his sons to sing them to sleep.
Throughout the final day every few hours a youtube of "Danny Boy" which had been downloaded was played next to him and there in a peaceful and silent palliative care BR John just slipped away. I would like to think that made him relaxful enough to rest and go to sleep.

John had a stroke 12 years ago and had been living in the RI Veterans Home and he really made it his home. An accomplished horticulturist his room could have resembled a tropical rain forest people would go down to the end of the hall just to look inside.

Happy Birthday John,
I miss you
