I first met John at the Grand Opening of his new and amazing Kia dealership. The admiration and respect his friends and employees bestowed on him was indicative of the manner in which John treated people. John was bigger than life and dawned a smile and laugh that filled the showroom.
From the entire Kia Motors America team, we wish Deborah, the Martins Family, Steve Silver, John's employees and friends our most sincere condolences.

I remember the first tow truck John bought from me back in the 80's, we became friends and stayed that way for many years.
The last time I saw John was the Tuesday before the accident, we met at the Taunton auction and we talked about old times...John bought a truck and let me buy it from the auction because it was a truck I could use..his parting words to me were, " friends are worth more than money." He was still the same guy I met over 30 years ago...Rest in Peace my friend, and someday we'll have that beer together...Ralph

To John's entire family, May all the memories of John comfort you in this difficult time. Although it was way too soon, he is at peace now. It's been some time since I have seen John our lives took different paths. We grew up together and I will always remember skipping school to tow junk cars with him in his 1969 tow truck. I remember being with John when he opened his first garage on Pawtucket Avenue and then came Sterry Street. He was always very good to me and a great friend. He will be missed by many. God bless!

I worked for John at his auto body shop the knowledge I gained while I was a young technician was valuable. When i thought it couldn't be done it was impossible. John would always find a way to do what others could not. He allowed me to grow as a tech and pushed all of us all to achieve more.John expected the best out of his crew that's what made his one the greatest auto body shop. John Martins thank you for everything you did for me and my family. You were a good and fair boss. To my friend Jaime and all John's family I am sorry for your loss. Rip john

I attended grade school with Jimmy (St. Mary's) John was a couple years older and was the biggest kid in any of the classrooms. I felt a sense of safety and security when I hung around with Jimmy since I did not have an older brother to protect me. Clear as day I can remember the first time Jimmy invited me over his house on Anthony Avenue after school..I was invited to sit down with Jimmy & John and have hot bowl of homemade Portuguese soup and fresh papo secos (Portuguese Bread)that their mother prepared on a cold winter day. I gladly excepted the offer and the hospitality the Martins showed me that day, and I felt important sitting with "Big John" & Jimmy. I could not wait to get home and tell my parents Jimmy is Portuguese just like me, and his mom makes soup just like avo!

On June 21, 2015 I was trailing my boat home to Pawtucket from a beautiful day fishing in Jamestown with my wife. It was a Sunday night around 6pm when the the axle on my trailer broke in heavy traffic. I was able to pull over into the breakdown lane just before the Thurbers Avenue "S" curve and remember seeing that big blue bug on the opposite side of the highway.I frantically started calling nearby tow companies in Providence for help and assistance, but none of them were able and/or willing to help me in a very bad situation. I was panicking and trying to remain as calm as possible for my well being as well as my wife's. I have owned and enjoyed this boat for a very long time, but for the safety of my wife and myself, I was mentally prepared to unhook the boat from my truck and leave it there stranded in the breakdown lane and go home.
My wife who works in the automotive industry took it upon herself to look up the contact information and to call Sterry Street Towing as I was standing outside in front of my truck. Unaware of the call she made, It was like a giant weight was lifted off my shoulders when she yelled out the window "HELP IS ON THE WAY"! Sterry Street Towing is on their way with a flatbed and will be here within 20 - 30 minutes.

Life gets busy for all of us, and I never had the opportunity to run into you, shake your hand, and to thank you for running such a professional business and helping me and my wife in a time of need. I will never forget that day..I was so grateful for the help you, and your fearless staff provided by returning my boat safely home that day. You are all true "HEROS" that do not hesitate to help others in need... day or night, rain or shine..God Bless You John!

Especially to John's family I would like to express my sincerest condolences at this time. My prayers and thoughts are with you..
Also to John's friend's, co-workers, and to all the countless people he has helped throughout the years.

Sincerely,
Joe R.

During the course of my personal and business experiences, John was by far the nicest, most honest, sincere, intense individual I ever met. He not only easily conveyed his acute business acumen, but also commanded deep respect through his warm, loving, caring personality and values. It was an honor knowing him. He will be tremendously missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. God bless and watch over all he so tragically left behind.

Our deepest condolences go out to john's entire family and business family. Our prayer and thoughts are with you during this time of grief.
John was one of my very best friends, in the wrecker business, as well as in my personal life. He was my northern brother and I was his southern brother. I remember many occasions eating out whenever he was in Florida. he always stopped by to help out and work side by side with me and my employees whenever he was in town. John had a heart as big as the moon and he will be deeply missed but remembered with great fondness.
