I have been blessed to receive the love, guidance and support of two fathers in my life. My father Peter Lekos, whom we sadly lost on May 4th 1997, and now my father-in-law Emmanouel on October 9th, 2016. Both men influenced me greatly and have guided my thoughts in every decision I make in life. Let me tell you about my father in law as I know and love him... In 1984 not only did I meet my loving future husband but I met my father in law. George and I worked in a small pizza shop and his father would visit him every night. He is a kind and gentle man who always had a good word to share. He placed the highest value on his family and should complete devotion to his wife and only son. We shared many joyous family celebrations centered around his delicious souvlakia or roast lamb. He kept the traditions of our culture alive and shared with all the family. I greatly enjoyed learning from him, we made wine together. My father helped put together a still which we made tsikoudia a family favourite. My father in law worked for 18 years at Artistic Lace. He retired in December 1992 and in January 1993. George & I bought Son's Pizza. "Manny" as we called him was there from open to close 7 days a week without question to assist his family. Others may have a different version of what to do during retirement. Manny would not dream of anything else but to help his son. The work was not easy and most days he had to be sent home even after closings. The dedication to his son was timeless. After Son’s closed, Manny was able to retire, he had a garden at his house and one at ours. He helped George with all the home improvements. They put in a hardwood floor, built steps for our deck. Any reason to be together and help. Even before we were married, he referred to me as his “child†each time we visited him he said this is your house too. His love is boundless, his support endless. Now that he can’t care for himself his son’s support is endless and his love is boundless. Manny is sweet and affectionate and he had given us memories and we will treasure and carry with us forever.
