My deepest sympathies to June, Gene's family and all the souls he has brightened over the years.

To me, Gene was a joy whom I looked forward to seeing daily, even if it was no more than a wave and a smile as we went about our days, or the more lengthy garden-time discussions that appeared as Spring crept forward into summer.

I wish you all peace in this difficult time.

Sincerely,

Jennifer

Gene was truly the "keeper" of Cormier Rd. He was more than just a neighbor, he was like family to many of us here in our little corner of the world. I'll miss our tomato/quahog exchange every summer and seeing him out in his beloved garden. Thanks for the memories Gene!

Dear June, Gene’s family and those who have been lucky enough to be touched by Gene’s warmth and friendship,
Gene was such a generous and friendly neighbor with his prosperous, beautiful garden and quick-to-greet wave. I’ll miss seeing him in the morning as I head off to work and especially in the summer when he’s out and about. I’m glad to have the fond memories of such a good neighbor. My heart goes out to June and Gene’s family.

My thoughts are with family and friends of Gene. I worked in Building 12 where Gene worked in the "70's". He was such a gentleman, always holding the door for us and a smile hello. A group of us always had lunch with him and established a great friendship. After moving to BI he surprised me one day by calling me saying he was on the island, that he had taken his boat over. He got to meet my daughters and see my lovely 1970 VW Bus! Anyone who would take the time to look someone up like that says quite a bit about that person. He touched many lives and will be missed. My first memory of Uncle Gene was many years ago back in the 60’s seeing him come to pick up my Aunt June in a shiny bright Blue Camaro Convertible and thinking “Wow, What a Cool Guy!” And that he was… I have many fond memories of him and they all make me smile …his love for the being in the sun on his boat on the water with AJ and their many Marina Friends, all of his great fishing stories including the “zooblers” (he had a knack for making stuff up and you believing it!), his incredible vegetable and flower gardens which he was so proud to show you because they were the best around, his connection with the birds, birdfeeders and his beloved adopted “Kitty” or “Ki Ki”, bringing his little cooler with a few “cold ones” to my lake house for the Annual Fourth of July Parties, him calling AJ every day when she was in Florida, and so many other nice memories of such a kind and gentle man that everyone loved!
My sincere condolences to AJ, Sandy/Joe, Brian/Cathy, Coleen and Keri and all of Uncle Gene’s many, many friends and neighbors. He will definitely be missed but never forgotten!

Birthday, holiday, graduation
Warm and friendly conversation.
Gathered in the house or yard
Reminiscing never hard.

Talked about the days of old
Global traveler we were told.
Nostalgia floating in the air
As tales were told from his chair.

With his cooler by his side
Cans of Schaefer he supplied.
And a brandy he would drink
As round the table glasses clinked.

One tomato, two tomato, three tomato, four
Better veggies than the store.
From the garden that he grew
Shared his “gifts” with all he knew.

Santa-like and happy grin
Bright white whiskers on his chin.
Never treated people mean
Forever known as Papa Gene.

We will miss you Gene….Love Dawn and Billy Conn

Dear Brian, Sandy , his grandaughters Teri and Colleen, and the spouses of Sandy and Brains, and many of Genes long lasting friends.
I just returned to Ky after staying with my sister June for two weeks.
I knew all along Gene ,was very special all these years that they dated and he and June lived together, but was shocked to see the out pouring love and concern for June, from friends of your dads and grandfather,he was very special, to alot of people. We all loved him as a brother in law,and will miss him, especaily when Mac and I visit R I.
Hope someone continues to keep up his wonderful garden he always had, and June pass out all his produce and beautiful flowers he shared with many and some he did not even know.
May God bless you all and give you strength to go on,remember all your happy memories that you had with him, we will all meet again in heaven and am sure he will have a nice tan, with a beer in his hand , saying
How about a beer?
If God has beer in heaven! love Carol and Mac
