I am one of the missionaries who taught and baptized Niza & Hugo Diaz. They were truly pure in heart, the most wonderful people. The day we met the Diaz in 1974, we knocked on their door and they let us into their apartment. When I asked, "How long have you lived in Providence, Hugo said, "We just moved here from New York. The Lord told us we should move to Providence, and he would send us messengers to teach us the truth. Are you the messengers?"

I said, "Yes, we are the messengers," and Hugo and Niza were baptized shortly thereafter.

When I visited Niza and Hugo in 1980, they had a surprise party for me with fellow Spanish-speaking members of the church, and I sang a song I wrote about Ecuador. Niza gave me a beautiful poncho from Ecuador and a shawl for my future wife (plus a shawl for my mother). My wife, Yvonne, and I just looked at these wonderful clothing items.

We love and miss you, Niza!
