Val and I were teammates on the 1956 baseball team at Cumberland High School; many years passed before we saw one another again; it was nice to have our friendship renewed at the Tuesday morning breakfast meetings at Bucci's in Albion; you'll be missed Val.

Val and I certainly go a long way back. I can remember sitting with him in his father's gas station on Mendon Road on many occasions. All the Berkeley/Ashton kids I'm certain remember going to his grandfathers store and loosing our pennies in that game which was on your left as you entered the store. Having gone through school together (1 through 12) I will certainly miss him. From Little League, to Babe Ruth League, to high school baseball, where he was chosen as a 1958 First Team All-State selection as a first baseman. Since those days we we would bump into each other occasionally. It wasn't up until 6 years ago when we started meeting for breakfast (as Paul Tucker has mentioned). Ernie's impersonations of some of the Berkeley characters would always put a smile on our faces. We could spend hours talking about sports. He was simply a super nice guy, always friendly, and always smiling. He will be missed by all.

To Jan & Family~~
Jan, as I told you recently, anytime the name Ernie Vallevona was ever mentioned you heard the following - "What a great guy". We became friends in high school and throughout the years our paths would cross. As you know in recent years, with his health declining, we would have phone conversations and discuss our growing up years when our parents would talk about the "Old Days" and how could it be that WE were now the ones talking about our "Old Days". Afer we talked about our families and current events (he had the guys to discuss sports with) we would get to the best part of our talks. Ernie & I loved to reminisce (and we would put the town back together with the many businesses of a bygone era) but then came the good stuff - our love for the music of our times THE FABULOUS FIFTIES(especially The Platters). We were in our element when PBS had the Oldies Specials on and we saw many of the actual performers from that time. I just want to say that while you have lost your husband, father & grandfather I have lost a treasured friend and so as the Platters once sang, it's now "Twilight Time".

The Vallevona Family,
Going back to our Cumberland H.S.days which I still vividly recall, playing baseball with Ernie and fellows like E.Pina,J.Kissik,S.Koziol,A.Aroujo,P.D'Agostino,etc.,one of the best teams coached by none other than Andy Tucker. Manny times while a dispatcher w/JHLynch I would discuss w/Ernie the coordination of asphalt deliveries for Cruz Const Co. Ernie was the best at this job, being multi tasked as he was he could handle long lines of incoming asphalt truck pickups as well as JHLynch work crews on a daily basis with great ease, whatever needed to be done. Of course a quip would always be given about the good old days. Well volumes could be written and Ernie will never be forgotten by me. My deepest heartfelt sympathies go out to the family.

Val was the bet. In 1976 when I was 19 years old and running for the Town Council he was one of the first to come to our headquarters in Berkeley and volunteer. He even brought the furniture! He was 37 yrs old and believed we could win. he was the best . AND i loved him for it. i won because of is support and I will never forget it. Val you are the best. Rest in piece my friend. i love you.
