There is a hole in the world where one of the greatest men I have ever met once stood. A towering beacon of strength love and family. A role model to all his presence touched. A guiding hand to all that could reach. A rough yet gentle hand that has seen the world and all that had to offer. With it he molded and crafted his destiny, to be one of the greatest men to ever walk the earth. I love you pepere rest in peace knowing you helped guide us all. Always missed never forgotten.

I am here to bear witness to a life well lived, and a race well run. My dad has left a challenge to us all that will be a tough act to follow. He was faithful to his community when at a young age he rescued a little boy from drowning and received an award from the governor of RI. He also served his country in the Army during the Korean War. He was faithful to his family when at the young age of 16 due to the economic circumstances of his day he had to work full time to support his family. And then later when he rescued his brother in law from drowning off the rocks of Maine while fishing. He was also faithful to his wife for over 59 years of marriage. They were married in 1953 and had 59 years of ups and downs together. After the birth of their first son Maurice jr., they lost 3 premature baby girls, but they went on to have 2 more sons Michael and Mark. And yes many times when they were trying to yell at us for something they would get all our names mixed up. We were never rich in material things but we never lacked love and support. When other younger parents might have taken a pass my parents were still taking us kids camping in Maine sleeping in tents actually roughing it. We always ate dinner together even though both of my parents were working.
I never saw a child who did not like my father, because he was always a child at heart. Whether it was my brothers and I or cousins, neighbors or grandchildren he would always be the one to get the kids laughing making up silly games like where’d the hat go.
He gave up his time to be a coach for his kid’s teams like my 6am hockey practices and my brother’s baseball games.
Many times he helped my brothers and I with our home projects even though when we were kids we complained about helping him around the house. He was always there to lend us a hand.
But it was at the end of his life where he showed his real inner strength. When cancer was attacking his body and was causing him much pain he would pass on taking real strong pain killing medication which he knew would leave him less aware of those around him. He never complained but always had something positive to say about one of his grandchildren. Even though he battled different cancers for the last almost 20 years of his life, it never got him down to the point of despair and surrender. He was still putting the needs of others ahead of himself. When I think of him I remember the verse of the apostle Paul near the end of his life.
2TIM 4:7-8
I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. 8 Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day—and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing.
