Norman was a friend of mine growing up in Pawtucket. I use to get my haircuts from his father. I worked on his campaigns as did Marlow Thomas. We had fun back then but everyone went their separate ways and never to be seen again

As a member of Sen. Claiborne Pells' staff, Norman & I became good friends when he came and joined our staff as an intern in the summer of 1961 in Washington,DC. He worked hard to help those in need. My prayers to his family and friends. Farewell my friend, you will be sorely missed by us all.

My condolences to Norman's brothers, sister, children grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. I knew Norman from the age of six years old, we grew up together
and shared many good times. Norman was one of a kind.
Always passionate and always trying to help those who couldn't help themselves. His election and subsequent legislative victories helped to make R. I. A better place to live. We will certainly miss him.

Norm and I did radio and tv at the Veteran's hospital together and covered the 1961 hurricane by driving around downtown Providence and stopping to make phone calls to the V.A. to provide flood reports. We spent hours discussing jazz and politics and our chats always ended with a poem by Robert Frost who Norm worshipped. We often took car trips to Cape Cod and Norm would always mention his favorite song then, Patti Page singing OLD CAPE COD. Norm became my inspiration to keep up with jazz which I still perform, and write, something I taught for 42 years and still continue to do as well. He was my mentor and demonstrated a passion for justice. We lost touch over the years as this thing call living will do to all of us, but in my heart, I am grateful that we had our short friendship and that he made this world a little bit better. Say hello to Frost for me, Norm.

You seem like a pretty cool person, uncle Norman, and may your soul rest in peace. I'm quite angry that I never really got to know you before you became ill. I know I'll never get the chance to meet your true self, before I get to heaven, that is, but I have a feeling that we would have gotten along very well.
Rest in peace uncle, make sure you take care of mémé up there.

Norman,
There aren't many men I recall fondly from those RISD days - but you are one of the select few. You were wholly yourself and wholly memorable.
Wherever you are now, I do hope most fervently, that you are as happy as you (albeit briefly) made me.
fondly,
DeeAX

I think I still have one of his political signs. He was quite a character who definitely marched to the beat of his own drum.
