age 70, entered into God's kingdom peacefully and surrounded by her loving family on January 2, 2015. Edith was born on February 14, 1944, in Barranquilla, Colombia, to Alicia Andrade Abello and Enrique Oquendo Simmons. Edith attended "Nuestra Senora de Fatima" in Colombia. She graduated with highest, distinguished honors, and began her professional career as an educator.

Edith, and her family immigrated to the United States in the late 60's. Arriving first in New York, moving later to Central Falls and settling in Pawtucket, RI. Edith was employed at the "Blackstone Valley Community Health Center." She truly enjoyed her work, and was a familiar, kind face and gentle voice to everyone she came in contact with.

Edith could be found going on "adventures" with her children, gardening, or creating magnificent origami creations. She was a woman with varied interests, with an intellectual capacity that allowed her to comprehend many concepts with ease. She in turn used her natural teaching ability and intellect to share information and engage in meaningful and purposeful conversation that always left you a bit wiser. She was a born leader, she lived her life with purpose, clear direction, and was a beacon of light to many and most profoundly to her children.

She enjoyed sharing her home with friends, and family, she most recently enjoyed hosting her daughter's birthday. In her presence you felt, love, strength, courage, and light. Edith will be remembered by everyone who met her as, a gentle, kind, generous, loving, strong woman. She loved unconditionally and gave of herself endlessly. Edith was someone who held loyalty and honesty in the highest regard.

Edith was a woman of unwavering faith. She never feared death, even in the face of her battle with cancer. She put herself in God's hands, and never questioned his plan for her. Edith was a role model, a true example of who we need to be in this world. To know her, was to truly love her.

She is survived by her three adoring children, Rene I. Marin, Malin Marin-Bean, and Brandon G. Bean; numerous brothers and sisters, many nieces and nephews, other relatives, and a host of friends whom she loved.

To our beloved mother, "Thank you." Thank you for loving your family with every part of your being, for being an inspiration, for being our foundation, for teaching us what love, respect, and honor truly mean. Thank you for being valiant. Gracias Mami, gracias por todo. Siempre viviras en nuestros corazones. Until we meet again.

You are cordially invited to a ceremony celebrating Edith's beautiful life at a memorial mass on Wednesday, 01/7/15, at 11am at Swan Point Cemetery in the Redwood Chapel at with internment immediately following. Memorial donations may be made to "The National Ovarian Cancer Coalition", NOCC.
