born April 18, 1926 in Shelby, North Carolina. She was the fourth daughter born into a family of five sisters to Dea. John W. Saggers and Mother Ida M. Tory Saggers. They moved to Providence, Rhode Island when Mamie was in grade school.
She received her formal education in the Providence school system. She was an excellent basketball player and graduated from Hope High School. She was determined to go back to school. During the eighties, in a mature age of life, she matriculated to Rhode Island College and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Gerontology. This was a proud event in her life.
She met the love of her life and was united in holy matrimony on September 9, 1951 to Obe W. Catlin Jr. They were the proud parents of two daughters and two sons. She was also a foster parent to the Dixon Children. She and her husband were the owners of Obe's Variety Store for over 23 years located on Lippitt and Pleasant Street.
Mamie accepted the Lord as a young adult. She actively participated in the ministry of the United First Born Church of Jesus Christ. She served in the church as secretary, Sunday School Teacher, Missionary, Church Mother and Overseer. Mamie's love for God and the call to serve, lead her to work untiringly as an advocate to improve the quality of life for the citizens in her beloved Mount Hope Community, in which she lived for more than sixty years. Mamie's commitment to serve her community has left an indelible impression on the hearts and lives of all she was privileged to serve.

She is remembered by a loyal and caring cousin, Naomi A. Brown who was instrumental in the establishment of the CSCM , and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins. She will be missed by her church family the Mt. Hope Community, friends, and volunteers who continue to keep the legacy of Camp Street Community Ministries alive.
