91 a civic and community focused, God fearing man, made his transition from earth to eternal life on November 16 surrounded by family and friends.
Born in Clare, LA to the late Woodie Rubin and Rosie (Henderson) Seastrunk, Clinton was the oldest of 11 children. His siblings are: Ruthie, Annie, Eddie, Tollie, Elzie, Van, Woodie, Jr., Mason Roy, Robert, Evelyn and Reginald.
Clinton enlisted in the Army on June 10, 1943, proudly served in World War II as a nurse and was honorably discharged on March 3, 1946. During his active duty, he was introduced to Marie Annette Green, through a church pen pal program.
On August 22, 1948, in Cleveland, Ohio Sister Maria Green and Brother Clinton A. Seastrunk began their life journey as one in holy matrimony. They settled down in Providence, RI where he graduated from Central High School and attended classes at Bryant College. The Seastrunks became members of the Church of God in Christ (COGIC).
In the early morning of April 13, 1949 Sister Seastrunk gave birth to a son that was the namesake of her husband, Clinton A. Seastrunk, Jr. In 1980, Clinton and Maria Seastrunk became foster parents to LaShon Lee Belcher and LaRessa Jean Belcher. They later adopted both girls.
Clinton ran for City Council and State Senate and was an active member of the East Side Neighborhood Council and the YMCA. He worked at Big Brothers of Rhode Island as a social worker, where he received several promotions, and after 30 years, retired as Director of Social Workers. Clinton returned to community activism and founded the Hope High School Parents Resource Center. He remained civic focused until being diagnosed with dementia.
Preceding him in death are his wife of 66 years, Maria A. Seastrunk and one daughter, LaRessa Jean Seastrunk. Elder Clinton A. Seastrunk, Sr. leaves to remember his legacy, a brother, Reginald Seastrunk; one son, Clinton (April) Anderson Seastrunk, Jr.; two daughters, LaJune (Ronald) Banjo-Gadson, and LaShon (McKell) Seastrunk Beamon; four grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Calling hours will be Friday from 5:30pm to 7:30pm at Keefe Funeral Home, 5 Higginson Ave., Lincoln. His funeral will be held Saturday at 10:30am at Onley Street Baptist Church, 100 Olney Street, Providence. Burial will be at Swan Point Cemetery.
