86, passed away on December 28, 2015. He was the beloved husband of Thelma (Brais) LaRose for 67 years. Born in Pawtucket, a son of the late George and Janet (Blais) LaRose.
Besides his wife he is survived by six children, Geraldine Nelson, Christine Charette and her husband Lawrence, Dianne Orr and her husband Dennis, Patricia LaRose and her husband Thomas Partridge, Linda LaRose and John LaRose and his wife Cathleen; two sisters, Janet Gingras and Madeline LaRose; seven grandchildren, Jason, Jill, Jeremy, Rebecca, Brittany, Elizabeth and William; three great grandchildren, Jenna, Jared and Taylor; and a large extended family. He was the brother of the late Mary Brunelle.
George's first love was his family and his passion was golf.
His love of family was evident in the numerous weekends spent packing up the station wagon with all the kids to trek to South Shore Beach in Little Compton and the many summer family vacations in New Hampshire on Lake Winnipesaukee. He often said he was blessed with a wonderful family.
His passion for golf led him to play at various courses including Calloway Gardens, and the big one, Pinehurst #2. He was a member at Lincoln, Montaup and Foxboro Country Clubs where he often took home first place in their tournaments and held top spots in their leagues. His greatest joy was when he could combine his two loves, teaching his children to play golf, sharing a round with his son John or just taking the family to Pitch 'n Putt. Knowing his love of golf, his family surprised him with his own "Green Jacket" Day. George was a high school athlete, participating in track, football and baseball all while tutoring other students in math and, sometimes teaching a class for the Brothers. He graduated from St Raphael Academy in 1947 and went on to attend URI, RISD and Boston University. He was employed at Chemical Products in East Providence for over 33 years retiring in 1992.
Over the years George was a little league coach for the city of Pawtucket, the girls' basketball coach at St. Jeans High School and on the Alumni Committee for St. Raphael Academy. He was a lifelong parishioner of St. John the Baptist Parish in Pawtucket. He was an altar boy in his youth and on the Parish Council as an adult.
George loved to tell stories of his adventures. Among his favorites, delivering newspapers during the 1938 Hurricane and his trip to the New York World's Fair with Uncle Felix. His other loves were Spanish Eyes (reminded him of his loving wife, Thelma), Suzanne Pleshette (that's a joke), Chateau La Rose 1975, Sambuca in his coffee, a cold Black & Tan, and a good Margarita (all in moderation). George said recently, "I've done a lot of things I never thought I would and had the chance to do a lot of things I never thought I'd have. "Here's to you, George, and as you often smiled and said, "I'll see ya when I see ya".
Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am in St. John the Baptist Church, 69 Quincy Ave., Pawtucket, on Thursday December 31, 2015. Calling Hours will be held Wednesday 5-7 pm in the Keefe Funeral Home, Five Higginson Ave., Lincoln. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to St. John the Baptist Church, 69 Quincy Ave., Pawtucket, R.I. 02860 or the American Cancer Society.
