89, passed away on Saturday, February 20, 2016 at the home of her niece in Providence, R.I. She was born in North Carolina to the late Levy and Jackann (Andersen) Thorne, and was the oldest of three sisters. She was preceded in death by her husband George H. Babcock Jr., and sisters Ethel L. Thorne and Sarah L. Lewis. Annie is survived by her niece Paulette R. and nephews Paul, Mark, Michael and David Lewis, and numerous great nieces and Nephews. Annie served as a Nurse for over 20 years in the U.S.A.F, she served during both the Korean and Vietnam War's. She was one of the few black female officers at the time. She was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Air Force Longevity Service Award and Armed Services Reserve Medal. She was an educator and wrote several cook books.
Funeral Services with Military Honors will be held Saturday, February, 27th at 9:30 am in R.I. Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Exeter, R.I.(PLEASE GATHER IN THE FIRST PARKING LOT ON THE RIGHT AS YOU PULL INTO THE CEMETERY BEFORE 9:20)
