57, passed away at home in Providence RI on May 4, 2016. She was the wife of her beloved husband "Honey" Marcellino J. "Butch" Cabral. Born in Salina, Kansas, she was the daughter of the late Leonard E. Walker and Elizabeth "Betty" Walker. She is survived by Popi and children Marc Cabral, Regina, Frank and Jerry Rocha, five grandchildren, her brother Leonard (Sarah) Walker Jr., including aunts and uncles, Ken & Gail Walker, Frank & Jane Walker, Millie Walker, Arline Walker, Pat & Fernando Pina, Shirley Fontes, Laurie Vieria, James & Joyce Vieria and the late Ronald Walker, cousin, nieces, nephews and extended family members. Her brother, James "Jimmy" R. Walker preceded her in death.
Elayne worked at Big Picture Learning as Program Director of Community School and Afterschool Engagement for The MET School and was a founding member of the Met Team since its inception.
Elayne was very passionate about helping others and dedicated her talents at The Met for 21 years educating, engaging, mentoring and providing optimal opportunities for students, advisors, and adult learners. Elayne was responsible for organizing the successful Walker Scholarship Fund for Met Students since 2003 assisting first generation college bound graduates achieve their dreams.
With 30 years of experience in program development, Elayne was also co-chair of the 21st Century CLC Network, member of the RIDE 21st Century CLC Steering Committee, member of the Planning Committee for the RIASPA, Lights on After School Breakfast of Champions, AKA Sorority Inc. and Organization of the Eastern Stars. Elayne was a member of the Cathedral of St. John's Church, Providence, RI.
Elayne's devotion and love for education, family and community inspired and transformed all the lives she touched. Elayne achieved her goal in leaving a legacy of paying it forward, instilled and inspired by her parents. Her love for education and community embodied all who had the pleasure of working with her.
She was a graduate of Spellman College "81" and Classical High School "76". Elayne enjoyed playing pool, singing and motor sports
A funeral service will be held Friday, May 13, 2016 at 10am in the Keefe Funeral Home. Five Higginson Ave, Lincoln. Burial will be private. Relatives and friends are invited. Calling hours will be held Thursday 4 to 9pm.
