64, was born on December 24, 1951 in Attleboro, MA and passed on May 12, 2016 in Barrington, RI. She was a daughter of the late John J. and Florence (Lemieux) McAloon. She resided in Seekonk in her younger years and attended Bishop Feehan High School in Attleboro, Massachusetts and also college at St. Joseph's College in Indiana and Assumption College in Massachusetts. She was employed by Cranston Print Works in Cranston, RI for many years. She also worked as a CNA for a short period of time where she could invest her compassionate, merciful nature. Karen's love of animals was another aspect of her life which was demonstrated through her many cherished pets.
She was a participant in various religious orders including (1) the Trappistine monastic order at Mount St. Mary Abbey in Wrentham, Massachusetts where members live in accordance with the Rule of St. Benedict and dedicate their lives to prayer and contemplation; (2) the Missionaries of Charity located in the Bronx, NY, founded by Mother Theresa, where members adhere to their vows of chastity, poverty, obedience, and the provision of wholehearted free service to the poorest of the poor; and (3) the Transfiguration Hermitage in Windsor, Maine, a monastic community also following the Rule of St. Benedict.
Karen attended the Holy Spirit Parish in Central Falls, RI where she was involved in various ministries, most notably the choir. While living in Augusta, ME, Karen was a parishioner at St. Michael's and served as a volunteer to bring communion to elderly people unable to attend Mass.
She is survived by her five siblings, Tom McAloon and wife Beverly of Swans Island, Maine (children Megan Cooper and Brenna Wynne); John McAloon and wife Marilyn of Georgetown, Indiana (children Joseph McAloon & Jean McAloon); Lynne (McAloon) Gillheeney and husband Richard of West Greenwich, Rhode Island (son, Shamus Gillheeney); Kevin McAloon, husband of the late Cie (Coelho) McAloon of Barrington, Rhode Island (children Patrick McAloon, Arielle McAloon & Joshua McAloon); and Melissa (McAloon) Monaghan and husband Peter of Sterling, Massachusetts (children, Kelly Monaghan, Thomas Monaghan, and Katie Monaghan). Karen had a remarkable memory about each niece and nephew and kept herself updated on each one of them. She loved them very much and thought each a very special person. She is also survived by five great nieces and nephews who she always asked about. Karen touched the lives of family and friends alike and leaves cherished friends in Pawtucket, Rhode Island and most recently Augusta, Maine.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Mass on Saturday, June 4, 2016 at 9:30 a.m. in Holy Spirit Parish, 1030 Dexter St., Central Falls. Burial will be private.
