88, passed away surrounded by his loving family on October 9, 2016. He was the loving husband of Dimitra (Marnelakis) Vourvachakis. Born in Karote, Rethemno, Crete, Greece, the eldest of three children, he was a son of the late George and Ekaterina (Ubakis) Vourvachakis.
Emmanouel served as a Corporal Officer in the Greek military, stationed in Macedonia, and in his three years of service he became an expert marksman. He was a great man of faith. He was a longtime standing member of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church of Pawtucket. Later in life upon moving to Warwick he became a member of the Annunciation Church of Cranston. He faithfully volunteered his time and made many lasting friendships in both communities. He enjoyed spending time with his family. Upon retiring from his position as foreman with the Artistic Lace Company he became an integral part in helping his son run Son's Pizza in West Warwick. He was also one of the founding members of the Pancretan Association of Rhode Island. In his free time he enjoyed gardening, making wine and was an avid fisherman and beekeeper.
Besides his wife, he is survived by his loving son, George Vourvachakis and his wife Ann, of West Warwick, and his adored twin grandchildren, Anastasia and Dimitri Vourvachakis; his brother, George Vourvachakis and his wife Joanna, of Montreal, Canada; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was the brother of the late Vasilios Vourvachakis and his wife Georgia.
Visitation will be held Thursday, October 13th from 5 - 8 p.m. in the Assumption of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church, 97 Walcott St., Pawtucket. His funeral service will be held Friday, October 14th at 10:30 a.m. in the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church, 97 Walcott St., Pawtucket. Burial will follow in St. John Ukrainian Cemetery, Hewes St., Cumberland. Relatives and friends are invited.
