70, passed at home on April 4th surrounded by loving family. He was the husband of Dolores C. (Patry) Benson. They would have been married for 50 years this November. Born in Central Falls, a son of the late William Benson Sr. and Edith (Doran) Benson. He had been employed by the City of Central Falls as the Animal Control Officer, then worked for Dunbar Armored Car for many years and as Councilman for Ward 5, becoming City Council President for nine years. Bill was a combat medic during the Vietnam War.
Besides his wife he is survived by two daughters, Samantha A. Branco and her husband Nuno, Rhoda N. Benson and her fiance, Homer Lafond III; a son, William Benson; a grandson, Steven J. Benson; a granddaughter, Sarah J. Branco; a brother, Thomas Benson and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Alan Benson.
Calling hours will be held Sunday, April 9th from 11 until 2pm followed by a service at 2pm and military honors in the Keefe Funeral Home, Five Higginson Ave., Lincoln. Burial will be private at the R.I. Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
