90, of West Greenwich, formerly of Canton, Ohio, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Monday, May 01, 2017 at Kent Hospital in Warwick, Rhode Island. She was the loving wife of Julio Gomes for 65 years. Born in Brava, Cape Verde, Dorothy was the daughter of the late Thomas and Laura Lopes. Besides her husband, Dorothy is survived by her sister, Maria Laura and her husband, Armando Barbosa of Scituate, MA; her sister-in-law, Maria Lopes of Scituate, MA; daughter, Dolores and her husband, Ludgero "Duke" Vicente of West Greenwich; her son, Julio "George" and his wife, Mary Gomes of Coventry, seven grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents; her son Edward Gomes, her daughter Laura "Linda" Gomes; her brothers, Virgilio Andrade and John Lopes.

Known affectionately as "Mama" to her grandchildren, Dorothy was known for her lively sense of humor and her ability to make anyone laugh. Dorothy enjoyed being with friends and family. She was a devoted wife and a loving grandmother and she spent countless hours taking care of each of her family members. Dorothy also enjoyed gardening and was an incredible baker.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, May 05, 2017 at Saint Anthony's Church in Pawtucket, Rhode Island. Interment will follow at Mount Saint Mary Cemetery. Visitation will be held, Thursday, May 04, 2017 from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at Keefe Funeral Home, Lincoln Rhode Island.
