99, passed on November 10, 2017. She was the wife of the late Joao Monteiro.
Born and raised in Fogo, Cape Verde, a daughter of the late Katarina Mendes Rosa and Alfredo Soares Rosa. She is survived by a daughter ILda Monteiro Lopes, and a son ILdo Monteiro. She was mother of the late Maria Barbosa, and Inucencia Monteiro.She leaves behind a legacy of 32 grandchildren, 170 great grandchildren, and 47 great great grandchildren. Lia loved to dance, play URIN (Creole), and card games (BISCA in creole). She enjoyed spending time with family, helped raise many of the grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a selfless, loving, caring, funny, and generous individual. She loved taking pictures including selfies. She was always ready with a smile. Grandma loved to offer everyone gum, and different types of candies. Even if it didn't taste good you still took it, smiled and pretend you liked it because she was watching. She also loved to play around with the children. She loved to give them $1.00 bills. One of Lia's grandson said what else is there to say about grandma. She is the best grandma in the world.
Dear God, if it is not too much trouble, take extra special care of Lia as she is very dear to us.
Calling hours will be held Sunday, November 12th from 2pm until 4pm in the Keefe Funeral Home, Five Higginson Ave, Lincoln, her funeral will be held monday at 8:30am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, High Street Pawtucket at 10am. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery, Pawtucket.
