80, of Cumberland, RI (formerly of Hudson, MA) passed away on Saturday, November 25th surrounded by his loving family. He leaves his wife of 49 years, Maria de Lourdes Bairos Sousa. Born in Santa Maria Acores, Portugal, he was a son of the late Jose Joaquin and Maria Andrade.
Joao immigrated to the United States in 1978 with his family where he resided in Hartford, CT until he moved to Hudson, MA. In 1986 they moved to Central Falls, RI. In 2015 they moved to Cumberland, RI. He was employed by North East Cable in Attleboro for many years until retiring at the age of 65. He was an avid fisherman, loved to play cards, singing the "Folia" at Portuguese feasts and spending time with his family.
Besides his wife he leaves his three children, Nelia and her husband Joe Sousa of Berlin, MA, Maria Helena and her husband John Botelho of Pawtucket, RI, and Daniel Andrade of Central Falls, RI. He is also survived by 7 grandchildren, Kevin, Allison, Alvaro, Courtny, Matthew, Gabriella, Grayson; 2 brothers, Jose Andrade of East Hartford CT, Victorino Andrade of Palm Coast, FL; and many nieces and nephews. He was the late brother of Antonio Andrade, Emelia Andrade, Manuel Andrade, Maria Sousa and Rosa Braga.
His funeral will be held on Wednesday, November 29th at 8:30am from Keefe Funeral Home, Five Higginson Ave., Lincoln, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10am in St. Aidan Church, 1460 Diamond Hill Rd, Cumberland. Burial will follow in Mt. St. Mary Cemetery, Pawtucket. Calling hours will be on Tuesday from 5 - 8pm. Relatives and friends are invited.
