60, of Pawtucket, Rhode Island, passed away suddenly on Saturday, November 25, 2017 at Rhode Island Hospital.
Maria was born in Fogo, Cape Verde on March 3, 1957 and was the daughter of the late Idilia B. Mendes and Joao D. Mendes. She is survived by her long time partner, Antonio Gomes and three daughters; Ana Lita Darosa, Ana Helena Darosa and Idilia Gomes; three sons, Olavo Gomes, Helder Gomes and Joao Gomes. She also has three granddaughters, Jasmine Pinto, Isis Sanchez and Jaliya DeAndrade and three grandsons, Zerick Gomes, Isiah Gomes and Liam Gomes. She is survived by nine brothers and sisters and many nieces, nephews and cousins..
Maria comes from a very large family and was also very well known and loved by the Pawtucket and Brockton Cape Verdean communities because of her warm, kind and generous spirit. Her smile would always light up a room. Maria's greatest joy was cooking and spending time with her children and grandchildren. All who knew Maria loved her dearly.
Funeral Information
A funeral service will be held on Friday, December 1st at 11:00AM at the Brockton Portuguese Seventh Day Adventist Church, 28 Warren Ave, Brockton. Interment will follow in Melrose Cemetery, Brockton. Calling hours Thursday from 4:00 to 8:00PM in the Russell & Pica Funeral Home, 165 Belmont St.,(Rt.123) Brockton.
