37, passed away on January 5, 2018. Melvin, who was affectionately known as Meivi or Mel, was born in Providence, Rhode Island, to Ylsa Torres and the late Jose Rafael Torres, both from the Dominican Republic. Melvin had a great appreciation for music, especially hip hop. He was a music aficionado, who enjoyed analyzing and dissecting lyrics. Melvin loved reading books about history and sharing his knowledge with others. He was deeply philosophical and always had words of wisdom to share. Melvin had faith in Jehovah God and the saving power of the ransom of his son Jesus. He believed in the resurrection and God's promise of a paradise Earth.
Melvin leaves behind his only child, Breanni Torres, his mother Ylsa, his twin sister Yaritza Torres, brother Teddy Torres, sisters Melissa Torres-Hardy, and Randi Norville, along with nieces and nephews Imani, Gabriel, Louis, Sofia, and Nyomi. He also leaves behind his girlfriend June Aoki. In addition to his immediate family, Melvin is also survived by his large extended family of numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend visitation on Monday, January 15th from 10:30am - 12:30pm at Keefe Funeral Home, Five Higginson Ave., Lincoln, followed by a funeral service at 12:30pm. Burial will follow in North Burial Ground, Providence.
