Revered Dance Teacher in the City of Pawtucket who was proudly inducted into the Pawtucket Hall of Fame in 1994, treasuring her Key to the City.
Theresa was a lifelong Central Falls resident from the age of 1 1/2 years when she emigrated with her parents, the late Simaire (Gaudet) and Patrice Landry, from New Brunswick, Canada. She remained in her own home until two years ago when she moved to her daughter, Susan Montaquila's, home in North Providence. After a five month residence at Hopkins Manor in North Providence, Theresa passed quietly from this life on Thursday, January 25, 2018. She leaves her loving daughter, Susan Montaquila, her two grandchildren, Justin and Marisa, and two great grandchildren, Alexander Tashjian and Michael Montaquila.
Following her retirement as a dance teacher and choreographer at the age of 93, Theresa was not satisfied to merely sit back and relax, something she never did. She had always wanted her autobiography to be written. Thus, her book, "Truck of Potatoes," is a rendition of parts of her life, showing her commitment to teaching, learning and loving.
Theresa gained most of her satisfaction from teaching young children the art of dance, as she watched the smiles on their tiny faces. This meant more to her than the glamour and the glitz. She, herself, would spend time going to Boston and New York to learn new steps which would make her students the best. These young people were inspired by Theresa's philosophy to "never give up," "keep plugging away," as many of them, too, became dance teachers, eventually with their own studios.
Giving back was a huge part of Theresa's life. She put on shows for the U.S.O., the elderly in various homes, especially the Jeanne Jugan Home, the Veterans' Hospital and many more places where she knew that the residents would love seeing the children dance and receive the little gifts she prepared for the "little ones" to give these people during the holidays. As much as she would ask from others, she gave more of herself.
Theresa lived a wonderful life, traveling to various countries, meeting many politicians, local and national, movie stars, and famous dancers. She was a shrewd businesswoman, as well, buying a small, box-like beach front home and turning it into a profitable rental property when her own father told her not to take the risk.
This was a woman light years ahead of her time.
Theresa's greatest loves were her daughter, grandchildren and great grandchildren. The trials and tribulations she went through, yet accomplished with a positive outlook on life, were for each of them.
