55, passed away on March 16th, 2018. Born in Brava, Cape Verde on August 1st of 1962, she was the youngest daughter of the late Arminda Olegario Monteiro and Francisco Fernandes. She moved to the United States with her mother and sisters in 1978 settling in New Jersey prior to moving to Providence, Rhode Island, where she attended Hope High School and then CCRI graduating in 1985. She then moved to Wellington, Florida in 1995 where she still lived with her daughter.

Nanai loved and was loved by everyone who knew her, always giving advice to young and old alike. She loved shopping for beautiful clothes and hats, exercising, taking long walks with her dog and watching classic films. She loved giving and receiving flowers what she considered a perfect gift of any occasion, but most importantly, she loved the beach and the Florida sunrises. She would drive for miles on Sunday mornings to go to the beach so she can watch the sunrise. She always said there is nothing more beautiful than watching that great ball of fire rising from the water in the distant horizon on a clear day. She would invite anyone she knew to go visit her so they can go watch the sunrise on Sunday morning where she would sit on the sand by herself, watch the sunrise, take a splash in the water, eat a banana, drink a bottle of water and then walk the beach.

She felt it was everyone's responsibility to keep the beaches clean, so with a big plastic bag in hand, she would pick up the litter as she walked and wish anyone who passed by a "happy sunday" with a big bright smile.
She was constantly in touch on the phone with friends and she always ended the conversation by saying "hugs for the day".

Nanai is survived by her two precious daughters, Camille and Amanda; her loving sisters, Margarida, Lina, Bibica, Anita, Tata, Candia; a brother, Abel; as well as many loving nieces, nephews, grand nieces, grand nephews and many cousins, both here and in Cabo Verde whose names she never forgets and always found time to send cards and gifts for birthdays and Christmases and so many friends who were all like brothers and sisters to her. Nanai, you will be missed.

She founded a small organization called "Lembranca" after a returned visit from Cabo Verde where she collected donations from friends and family, then send the money to the neediest people in Brava who names were given to her in an attempt to help bettering lives even if for just a little while. She had a heart of gold and never stopped giving.
She worked for many years at Peoples and Citizens Bank in Rhode Island and then at Lawrence Architect Group in Palm Beach, Florida and was currently employed at Wells Fargo Bank of Royal Palm Beach in Florida.

Her funeral will be held on Saturday, March 24th at 8:30am from Keefe Funeral Home, Five Higginson Ave., Lincoln, followed with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10am in St. Anthony Church, Lawn Ave., Pawtucket. Burial will follow graveside in Swan Point Cemetery, Providence. Calling hours will be Friday from 5 - 8pm. Relatives and friends are invited.
