75, passed away peacefully surrounded by family and close friends on July 18, 2018 after a long illness.

Carole was born in New Bedford, Massachusetts on May 17, 1943 to parents Peter Andrade and Ruth Freeman (Fermino).

Carole was a lifelong learner who designed a life and career around some of her many talents and passions. Divorced after nine (9) years of marriage to Domingo R. Monteiro, Carole proudly provided for her children by working as a licensed hair stylist after graduating from the Arthur Angelo School of Cosmetology (now Empire Beauty), and as a freelance artist whose work was published in the Providence Journal Advertisement section. When her children were older and more independent, Carole later attended Rhode island College and became a published creative writer and poet. A humanitarian and committed activist, Carole marched in support of various social causes such as equal rights for women. In more recent years, Carole enjoyed light gardening at her home where she planted flowers in boxes on her porch and around her front yard. Throughout her life, Carole enjoyed visiting family and friends, engaging in lively discussion about many different topics, and making friends wherever she went. She always found a way to connect with others by using engaging conversation starters such as, "What's your sign?" Carole is remembered for many reasons including her authenticity, her pride as an American-born Cape Verdean, and most of all, for her eternal love for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchild.

Carole's parents, thirteen (13) great aunts and uncles, nephew Kevin Andrade, and grandniece Ashley Andrade preceded her in passing. Those who remain to continue her legacy of love include her sister Sharon Gonsalves; her children Kelly Monteiro Caesar, Domingo A. Monteiro, and James Monteiro; her grandchildren, Jamal Carvalho, Justine Monteiro, Marisa (Alves) Mota, James Anthony Monteiro, Nia Monteiro, Gian Monteiro, Fatine Oliveira, Jason Monteiro, and Hibah Monteiro; great-grandchildren Olivia Joi Ransome, Fabian Mota, and Lucia Mota; nephew Keith Andrade; niece Desiree Andrade; grandnephews Rasheed Andrade, Keith Andrade, and Sean Stout; great grandnephew Jonathan Bowie; grandniece Sharbri Andrade; and great grandnieces Kerryington Williams Andrade, Amani Andrade Hay, and Ava and Ada Andrade McLean.

A public viewing and celebration of life is scheduled for Sunday, July 29, 2018 from 2 - 5 p.m. at Keefe Funeral Home, 5 Higginson Avenue, Lincoln, RI 02865. Thank you to all who love Carole and who contributed in any way to her health and happiness, including her closest friends, Dr. James R. Klinger and the medical team at the Rhode Island Hospital Pulmonary Hypertension Center, the Rhode Island Hospital Palliative Care Team and clergy, and the International House of Rhode Island, a place with people who Carole loved dearly.
