a Barrington resident for more than 54 years, died suddenly on Tuesday, September 25, 2018, at the young age of 63. Rick was born in Minneapolis, MN, the son of the late Arthur and Helen (Popeo) Gladney
He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Karen, and his three children, Kristin Gladney (David Bookman), Kyle Gladney (Leslie) and Eric Gladney. He was the beloved brother of Arthur, Paul, James and Lee (Jensen). He was preceded in death by his sister, Eileen Richardson and niece, Brittany Richardson. He was a loving and devoted Papa to Bryson, Corbin, Vincent, and Thea.
Rick spent much of his childhood in Barrington. He was a 1972 graduate of Barrington High School, where he was an All State baseball player. He continued to have a close relationship with his high school friends throughout his life. He graduated from URI in 1976, where he earned a Bachelor's Degree and was a member of Phi-Kappa Psi fraternity and ROTC. He was employed by EF Hutton and Morgan Stanley and began his long career as a financial advisor. He received his advanced certifications for financial and estate planning. Rick was the Senior Vice President-Investment Officer for The Gladney Consulting Group of Wells Fargo Advisors. He joined Wells Fargo Advisors (formerly Wachovia Securities) in 2000. While at Wells Fargo, he held the Premier Advisor President's Council designation, held by a select group of Financial Advisors within the firm reflecting a superior level of professional achievement. Rick believed in personal service and he truly cared about his clients, their stories and their lives, and took pride in treating each of them like a family member.
Perhaps more than anything else, Rick believed strongly in the importance of helping others. He as the recipient of the "Community Hero Award" from the Red Cross and Blue Cross. He was an ambassador of the United Way of Rhode Island, served on the Professional Advisory Committee of the RI Foundation, and remained active with Make-A-Wish of RI for over 20 years. Rick regularly volunteered at local soup kitchens as well as helping to organize golf tournaments and fundraising activities for several local nonprofit organizations such as The Boy's and Girl's Club of Pawtucket, Mobile Loaves and Fishes, Amos House and The Women Resource Center, among others.
Rick enjoyed golfing and was a member of Wannamoisett Country Club. However, Rick's greatest pride and joy in life was the love of family and friends.
A mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday, September 29 at 11:30 am St. Luke's Church, 108 Washington Road, Barrington. Burial at Gates of Heaven Cemetery, Riverside, RI immediately following services. Visiting hours are Friday, September 28th from 4-8 pm at The Keefe Funeral Home, 5 Higginson Ave, Lincoln, RI.
