Henrique "Djick" Gomes, 72. It is with a heavy heart that we announce Henrique passed on January 4, 2020. He was resilient until the end, fighting and enduring the pain of his condition; which placed him in Miriam Hospital, where he passed.
Henrique Gomes is the outlasted child of Paulina Gomes, beloved husband of 51 years to Alda Gomes, and precious father of 13 children: Ana Gomes, José Gomes, Napoleão Gomes, Paulina Gomes, João Gomes, Benvinda Gomes, Matilda Gomes, Deolinda Gomes, Ida Gomes, Simone Gomes, Arminda Gomes, Davide Gomes, Cynthia Gomes. They provided him with 43 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. He was a man of vigor, good humor, and a people person, who dedicated himself to creating. Well known for his construction work, he sculpted many lion statues among other sculptures that are placed as exterior designs for homes all over Pawtucket. Sometimes the art he created manifested into something greater, many of the pieces he produced served as an emblem for Cape Verdean pride.
Henrique Gomes was a man who created great and many things, but the greatest thing he created was his legacy. His legacy is manifested in the things he’s left behind: the relationships with family and friends, and the memories which are imprinted in our hearts. When we think about Henrique Gomes we cry, not tears of pain and sorrow, but tears of "sodade", because he received and gave love. And with the life he was given he created great joy.
Visitation will be held Friday, January 10th from 5pm until 8pm in the Keefe Funeral Home, Five Higginson Ave, Lincoln.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, January 11th at 10am in Mount Hope Community Baptist Church, 734 Hope Street, Providence. Burial will be in North Burial Ground, Providence.
