Robert "Champ" "Bobby" Taylor was called home on January 9th, 2020 at the Phillip Hulitar Hospice Care Center. Champ was a lifelong resident of Providence, RI. Champ was always full with life! He was a great father, brother, uncle and friend who was loved and was always there for everyone. He brought family and friends together for many years with his annual family united cookouts at Colt State Park.
Champ was born in Providence, Rhode Island to the late Emma Skinner Taylor and Charles Taylor. Champ is survived by his brothers and sisters, Charles and Onie Taylor of Michigan, Frances and Joe Myers of Tennessee, Helen Taylor of California, Ronald and Nataki Taylor of Colorado, and Cheryl Taylor, Richard Taylor, Lisa Taylor, and Denise Taylor all of Providence, Rhode Island. He was the brother of the late Barbara Taylor, Gary Paul Taylor, Federick Bilal-Taylor, Patricia Taylor, Lola Taylor, William 'Billy' Taylor and David Taylor. Champ is survived by his 8 children, Rasheed Goode of Providence RI, Dina Silva of Providence RI, Sade Dorsey of Washington DC, Brittney Dorsey of Washington DC, Jade Prout-Taylor, Robert Prout-Taylor, Jade Collins, and Cyncere Wilson all of Providence, RI. He also leaves behind his life companion Bethany Wilson, of Providence RI. He is also survived by his Godmother Candida Silva. His legacy will be remembered through his 9 grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
Champ graduated from Hope High School and worked as a carpenter. He enjoyed fishing and football. Champ spent many years coaching youth football for the Mount Hope Cowboys. Champ was a community activist and was the co-founding member of the Pleasant St. Peasants Repertory Company, whose mission was to empower and provide opportunities to the youth in the community. Champ was also a co-founding member of P. Funk band, with the hit single 'Penitentiary'. Champ was a man who loved everyone and always had a beautiful smile on his face. Champ will truly be missed by all.
Calling hours will be on Thursday, January 16th from 5:00 - 8:00pm at Keefe Funeral Home, Five Higginson Ave., Lincoln. Funeral Service will be Friday, January 17th at 10:00am at Keefe Funeral Home, followed by burial in North Burial Ground, Providence. Relatives and friends are invited.
