Raymond Lucien Laporte, 91, of North Smithfield peacefully passed away the morning of February 10th surrounded by his loved ones. He was a proud husband to the late MaryRose (Belliveau) Laporte. Raymond was born in Pawtucket, RI to the late Osias and Valeda (Corneau) Laporte. Raymond was known to many as “Pops†and touched the heart of anyone he crossed paths with. His smile and contagious laugh would light up the room. Raymond entered the U.S. Army in 1952 where he proudly served his country during WWII. He was honorably discharged as a Corporal in June of 1960. In addition to his time in the Army, he worked as a carpenter. When he retired, he didn’t stop there. He enjoyed helping his son-in-law with various house projects. During their lifetime, he enjoyed playing cards with his brothers and spending time with his sisters. He is the last brother of 12. He is pre-deceased by his brothers Armand, Arthur, Henry, Leon, Maurice, Oscar and Roland Laporte and sisters Simone Gregoire, Alice, Louisa and Annette Laporte. Raymond was very active in his lifetime. He loved to spend time on the golf course, go for bike rides in the summer, walk his beloved dog, bowl and sit in his lawn chair “taking a sun tan.†Most of all he loved being a father and grandfather. Raymond leaves behind his daughter, Dawn Marie (Laporte) D’Alessio, son-in-law Raymond D’Alessio Jr., son Neil Anthony Laporte and daughter-in-law Laurie Laporte. He also leaves behind his grandchildren Dina (D’Alessio) Van Hoolandt, Derrian and Devon D’Alessio and his great-granddaughters Aria and Vienna D’Alessio. Raymond was a wonderful man with a big heart. He was kind and above all, genuine. Though we have to say goodbye to our loved one, heaven welcomes him in with open arms where he will be reunited with his family and start his next chapter.
